Hook Stinging nettle

The Karljohansvamp or stone mushroom is a real delicacy among edible mushrooms. Its taste is mildly nutty and goes well with all kinds of cooking. In Sweden's older agricultural society, mushrooms were picked to use as firelighters but they were not eaten. During the 19th century, it was a Bernadotte who imported his French eating habits when he took office as King Karl XIV Johan of Sweden, and the upper classes of society began to follow suit. Hence the name Karljohan.
